Live China Festival Video, Without & Aftershow – Beijing

Highlights of ‘Without’ – the final song in the set at Beijing’s Strawberry Festival earlier this month. What’s really cool is the footage after we finish. Check out the bit where Kent gives his drum sticks away.

This show was, as mentioned, our favourite for the China tour. It wasn’t our biggest crowd, but the energy they threw back at us was intense. Definitely the most fun we’d had on stage for the tour.

Checkya tomorrow.

Live China Festival Video, Sky Caves In – Shanghai

Live video from Chang Jiang Festival, April this year. The song featured, Sky Caves In, was the title track on our first album (released 2004). Awesome fun playing our old stuff to a new crowd…

Thanks to YuYang who filmed this footage from side of stage throughout the whole show.

Live China Festival Video, Orbital Pull – Shanghai

Live video from Chang Jiang festival, near Shanghai, 29th April this year. The song – Orbital Pull from our first EP, released 2006. Chang Jiang is a massive festival in a huge open field, not far from the Yangtze River. We came on stage about 7pm, just after sunset.

Live China Festival Video, Next To You – Beijing

Live video from Strawberry Festival in Beijing earlier this month – 2nd last song in the set ‘Next To You’ (new song for the next album). Strawberry was my favourite show of the China tour, the crowd kept building and building throughout the set. Max got mobbed when she stepped off stage at the end of the show, the crowd rushed the barriers & security had their work cut out holding them back.

Q Magazine escorted us to their promo tent for a photo-shoot when things had calmed down. The rest of the day we spent signing autographs & taking thousands of pics with festival-goers who’d seen the show.

We’ll be posting a whole lotta China tour video here over the next few weeks, including some great festival footage from Shanghai & Beijing.

Jamming New Stuff

Friday night’s rehearsal/writing session at Bakehouse was great. Started out a little slow til we started looking at writing new stuff. There are a bunch of riffs & half-songs still in the can from last years recording & writing sessions in Mansfield and Tamworth. The fun started when we pulled a few of those out for jamming. Awesome.

Lu Dao Festival China 2012.

We’re back in writing mode again with new singles in the wings scheduled for release in the 2nd half of this year.

Business V People & The GB Reef Under Attack

The On Fires are donators to Avaaz and GetUp, grass-roots organisations who focus people-power on issues of injustice & corporate greed. For today’s post I felt compelled to post this video on our site. This kind of thing happens all over the world – and Australia is not immuned. Big corporate business, under the cloak of manufactured public ignorance, is dangerously close to getting away with something the vast majority of Australians would never allow… If only we knew.

Visit GetUp for more information.

Checkya later. (Have a great weekend)

Post Tour Rehearsal, Shenyang Shots

Our first post-tour rehearsal/writing session tonight at Bakehouse Studios in Richmond – looking forward to it. Melbourne’s definitely cooling off as winter approaches. Some adjustment happening, coming in from Beijing & 28 degree days (80ºF) last week.

The shots below from Meidiqi Live Club in Shenyang on the China Tour earlier this month.

Shenyang seems like a far-flung Chinese city which has seen very few western bands, if any. Our opening act was an older fellow, playing solo on an ancient single-stringed traditional instrument. Touring China is a mixed bag of big festivals, club shows  – and the culturally unexpected. Awesome to see.

Checkya later.
