I’m taking a break this Sunday – back again at the Retreat Hotel Abbotsford Sunday 29th and every Sunday after that. Yesterday was epic. Special surprise guest Steph brought the house down with a voice from out of this world. We never knew – how did we not know!? (jumped in on What A Wonderful World and Valerie). Max rocked out Hotel Room, Adore and Abbotsford Song. Jimmy from Sophisticated Dingo jumped in on crowd fav More Than A Woman (to rapturous applause). And of course, the irrepressible Wayno smashed out Lionel Ritchie’s All Night Long late in day. Seeya in a couple of weeks!

Come on down, have a few cheeky ones. It’s an awesome Sunday arvo with a crew of friendly locals at the best pub in the world. I’ll be playing songs we love… and some On Fires ‘classics’. Max jumps up for a few, along with special guests throughout the show (3 sets). The unofficial 4th set after 6:30 gets pretty mayhemic. This weekend will be the 20th show.

I’m loving these shows. The Retreat is the greatest pub on Earth and I’m playing the front bar every Sunday for the rest of 2022. Hey, I’d be there anyway…

Week one of AFL Footy Finals done. And so are the Bulldogs and Tigers. It was a cliff-hanging thriller round of first-week finals football, perhaps the most exciting in living memory – with 2 games decided by less than a goal, and the others very close. The weekend gone was also my first gig in 3 years, to the backdrop of the Collingwood – Geelong game at the mighty Retreat Hotel in Abbotsford. Looking forward to this Saturday arvo again from 3:30pm as these very special solo gigs roll on. Guest artists jumping up throughout. And then a big semi final in the evening, Pies and Dockers. It’s all sudden-death footy finals from here til Grand Final day. See ya down the Retreat!

It’s been 3 years since any kind of show. But… starting this Saturday 3rd September, Marty plays solo acoustic at the Retreat Hotel, Abbotsford. 2:30pm – 5:30pm. It’ll be a little like that notorious 3rd set way back at the Yak. Guests jumping up throughout with Footy Finals Fever. See you there… (Go Doggies)

Today, with a tinge of sadness we say goodbye to our beloved Studio V. For the past 5 years the studio has been home to actors, film-makers, photographers, musicians, writers and a host of others in artistic pursuit. Due to current circumstances (the virus and its effect on just about everything) and the likely economic outlook, we’re changing direction for the space going forward.

I’d like to thank everybody who came to Studio V, and made it what it was. You’ll be sadly missed.

I’d not seen them live til now. Last night at the Palais, they put on an amazing show resplendent with astonishing production. The use of video and lighting creating an enthralling depth on that old theatre stage. And of course, the band totally smashed it. Razor sharp, tight and bringing the kind of massive energy required to deliver that iconic Pixies sound – a significant achievement given how long they’ve been around.

One of the many highlights – support band RVG – who felt like the perfect choice to open. Heart-felt, dramatic, soulful, dynamic.
