Steve’s Party Pic (The Vagrants)

A shot from Steve Iorio’s birthday party, Saturday night (taken from the Vagrants Facebook page). As mentioned earlier this week, it was a killer night. The idea was for Steve (and Renata’s) friends to get up & play throughout the night. Steve & Renata (The Vagrants) have been long-time great supporters of local musicians, organising shows here & overseas (we played a show Steve & Renata organised a few years ago in Berlin).

Dalek – Marty Exterminated

Had a great night last night at Steve Iorio’s birthday bash which was held in a small bar in Glen Eira (south-eastern suburb of Melbourne). Suffice to say, things got really messy – a bunch of musicians from all over Melbourne jamming & drinkin’. I remember getting up on stage with Max & completely butchering ‘Up There Cazaly’ – poor Max didn’t know what was coming next. Neither did I, frankly. Yep – there’s a good reason The On Fires have a ‘no-booze rule’ before hitting the stage.

Sad to say – I have no pics of the debacle (probably a good thing). I did, however, take this shot of the bar maid sporting a magnificent Dalek tattoo. I asked if I could take a close up shot but she declined, so I snuck this one in.

Oh yeah, Mark Gardiner was also in attendance last night, turns out it was also his birthday. Mark was our trumpet player at the 2010 Cherry Bar show in Melbourne.

Sore heads unite on this fine Sunday. We may be slow but we are many.

Mat Corrects, I Apologise – Oasis Album Sequence

A correction to yesterday’s post: Indeed it’s true, as Mat Ward messaged last night, ‘Definitely Maybe’ was the first Oasis album released in ’94. Their classic album, ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory’ (the subject of yesterday’s post), was released in the following year. I humbly apologise for any inconvenience that might have been caused.

Way back in the 90s, I hadn’t actually heard of Oasis til the ‘Morning Glory’ single made it to Rage sometime in ’95. Mat, who’s from England, tells me the band was massive there much earlier & asked whether ‘Definitely Maybe’ hadn’t actually been released here. A quick google check shows it was released in Australia in ’94 and made it to number 23 on our album charts. So there you have it.

All that aside – and not taking anything away from their first album, ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory’ is an amazing record & one of my favourites. If you haven’t sat through it yet, (as Molly would say) do yourself a favour…

Kerry’s Oasis Revelation

Kerry B sent a link to this video on our Facebook page – & I had to put it here for today’s post. The past couple of days we’ve been playing through a few songs from the first, and classic, Oasis album ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory’. It’s an amazing record, there must have been 6 or 7 top selling singles released from it including ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, ‘Roll With It’, ‘Morning Glory’ & ‘Some Might Say’. That said, Kerry reminds us with the video below, that there are striking similarities between many of the tracks on this fine album…

Have a great weekend & checkya later.

Q Mag At Strawberry Festival Beijing

Right after the Strawberry festival show (last month in Beijing) Q Magazine staff escorted us through the crowd to their marquis for a photo-shoot. Q Mag are just starting up in China – I think Max is holding the first edition in the shot below.

Strawberry turned into a pretty wild day. The show was amazing fun & we spent the rest of the day wandering around the festival, posing in photos & signing stuff. Check the videos in the previous posts below for live Strawberry footage.
