Children Collide @ The Corner, Friday

Children Collide were magic at the Corner Hotel on Friday. I’d already seen the band a couple of times – first time in Texas at South By South West 2010 & last year at Splendour In The Grass. Never really quite got it. But that all changed Friday night.

Children Collide at The Corner (Melbourne) Friday 10Aug 2012.

There was an electricity in the room, the crowd primed with excitement. The band hit the stage & blew the roof off. Haven’t seen crowd-surfing in a pub for a long while.

There’s something really different about Children Collide. Huge sound from a 3 piece. It’s a post punk thing – but it totally rocks out, stunning dynamics, great songs, epic choruses. I tried to buy a t-shirt after the show but they’d sold out. Spent the next hour or so in the public bar talking with other over-excited fans about how great the band were. Haven’t experienced that for a while either. Bloody fantastic. I’m hooked. If you get a chance (the Corner show was sold out) go and see em before they’re too big to play in a club.

AC DC – Kate’s Live Video Favourite

We’re looking for your favourite live video. Today’s entry is from Kate. She sent us this video link – ACDC – ‘It’s a Long Way To The Top 1976’ . OK, we know it’s not quite ‘live’ – but we thought we’d bend the rules for this one (at the risk of a barrage of complaints – it is a classic). ‘Like’ it on our Facebook page or leave a comment here. Send us your favourite live video link & we’ll feature it here (& Facebook). Quick explanation from Kate below…

Kate’s explanation:
“Hey Marty, Here’s my live music nomination for the comp. You can’t get more live than takin’ it to the street on the back of a truck. I saw them live at the Shepparton Civic Centre when I was 15, the first real rock concert I’d been to… Sharpie dancing my heart out along with the rest of the teen population of Shepp. Ahhh… those were the days. The new chap is very good, but for me if it’s not Bon Scott, it’s not Acca Dacca. Enjoy! kate.”

Graham’s explanation:
“Derek’s uncle, Butch, is a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band.  Trucks bought his first guitar at a yard sale for $5 at age nine and played his first paid performance at age 11.  Before his 13th birthday Trucks had “jammed” with Buddy Guy and gone on tour with The Allman Brothers Band.

Mat’s explanation:

Roight, ere we go – this is a classic. Alice Cooper still going strong after over 40 years as the original shock rock star. This one has it all: World famous classic song, audience sing-a-long, giant balloons, swordplay, fabulous top hat and tails and my favourite ever lyric: “We got no class, we got no principals, we got no intelligence, we can’t even think of a word that rhymes!”.
